Tea Before Honor
by Peter Hilton
The Lady Cavaliers' second short film was written
to show that although history illustrates many
examples of warrior queens and national icons
of the female spirit, there were also those
women who fought at the drop of a hat and for
the most trivial of a reasons. In 1792, Mrs.
Elphinstone called on Lady Braddock for tea
and after an unpleasant conversation that involved
the truth of her age, Lady Braddock challenged
Mrs. Elphinstone to a duel. They fought first
with pistols and then with smallswords until
the spilling of blood satisfied the honour of
one lady, while the other was forced to sign
a convention of apology. Tea Before Honour
was filmed on location in Suffolk, England at
Sibton Park.
