A DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD
By Peter Hilton
A Double-edged Sword was written as the first of a series of film
shorts intended to expand our sense of definition for what "the action
hero" is on screen. If we can break through traditional perceptions
that a female fighter exists only within the genre of fantasy by seeking
inspiration in historical fact, then women who excite audiences with their
combative skill will be seen as viable prospects for action movie entertainment.
In 1650 a well documented duel occurred between two sisters near Bordeaux
in France and this petty - but deadly - family feud formed the basis of A Double-edged Sword in which a mother and daughter fight over
inheritance, lost love and a dark secret from their troubled past.
